ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Keeping in mind the mentioned scenario D.A.V College for Girls, Yamunanagar took an initiative with the inauguration of Department of Mass Communication in 2007 in Yamunanagar for the first time. It is running Professional Bachelor Degree Program of 3 years, affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and being designed to provide a key to successful career in the field of Mass Communication to the students.

Mass Communication has emerged as a practical career choice for a large number of youth in the recent years. It is no longer limited to the conventional print and audio-visual media. With the growth of Internet and World Wide Web, Blogs we have emerged as a source of news and even opinion on News. The audience, too, is no longer passive and takes the initiative to respond to respond to the changing platforms. In the era of Information technology, New Media is developing as a new form of media which can provide many bright career options to the students of Mass Communication. Students desirous of taking up media as a career, therefore, are spoilt for choice. They can excel in traditional print and visual media or go for specialization in the different spheres of media like Sports, Science, Cultural, Political, Business, Crime, Fashion Journalism.

WHY THIS SUBJECT?

To meet the requirements of media industry technology updating is required. It will provide technical support and knowledge to the students. We will be focusing on college level Radio and Television Productions such as Radio Jingles, Talks, News Bulletin, Features, Dramas and Plays etc. Audio setup will help us to produce programmes at professional level. By using teleprompter they will increase their news reading capabilities and it will help to build up their confidence level and to face the camera. It will also increase their pronunciation skills. By using Professional HD Cameras they will individually learn the basics of Film making and documentary making. The new setup will help students to get equipped to the different stages of T.V. and Radio Production i.e. Pre-Production, Production and Post Production. It will give multidimensional exposure to the students. They will be able to get professional technical training in their own campus. As the world develops it is increasingly important for students to understand how technological developments impact on society, the economy, and the environment. Students learn skills that can effect changes in their own lives and community, and perhaps even nationally or globally. They are encouraged to show initiative, be innovative and creative, learn independently, and to make responsibility.
